The mandate is to provide travellers with sustainable options in countries where tourism has a direct impact on reef environments. At Reef Escapes we have chosen to focus on tourism as a cause but also a means of spreading awareness about reef conservation, and the changes that can happen to reduce or remove impacts. There are several reasons for the importance of addressing tourism and the reef:

In many countries that harbour reef environments tourism is a large or primary industry, often becoming the root cause of issues

Excessive waste and over-harvesting lead to stressed reef environments that are the backdrop for tourism (causing the industry to shoot itself in the foot)

Being environmentally conscious when you travel is a great first step in achieving reef management

Through selecting accommodation, dining and tour companies that are aware of their carbon footprint we can reduce impact and spread awareness

     Having travelled to over 13 reef environments in 9 countries worldwide we have developed an advanced appreciation for and understanding of the direct impacts tourism has on its surroundings. By providing a resource for travellers we aim to support companies making choices to improve reef protection and management, and ultimately help you help the reef.
